Universiy of Richmond Alert

UR Alert System

In the event of a campus-wide emergency, the University of Richmond has a comprehensive communication system in place—UR Alert—to send emergency messages via voice, text, and e-mail to faculty, staff, and students. This system will only be used for emergency communications.

UR Alert is delivered via Connect-ED software, licensed from NTI Group, Inc., a leading provider of emergency communication systems for colleges and universities. If you have questions, visit the UR Alert FAQ.

In the event of an emergency, UR Alert will send critical news and instructions as follows:

  1. To students, via their dorm or local phone
  2. To faculty, staff, and students, via their @richmond.edu e-mail address
  3. To faculty, staff, and students, via their cell phone (but ONLY if they "opt in" for this feature)
  4. To faculty, staff, and students, via text messaging (but ONLY if they "opt in" for this feature)
  5. To faculty and staff, via their work phone
  6. To faculty and staff, via their home phone (but ONLY if they "opt in" for this feature)

Please note: the University will send only minimal contact information to the vendor (NTI group), and they are contractually obligated not to share, make available, sell, or trade your data with any other entity.

Signing up/Updating Information

In order for the system to operate most effectively, it is important that students, faculty, and staff update the emergency contact information the University has in its BannerWeb system. Information Services has designed a simple emergency contact entry screen in BannerWeb. Please follow the directions below to enter emergency contact information.

  • Go to BannerWeb
  • Click on Secure Login
  • Enter your user ID and password, Click Login
  • Click on the Personal Information tab
  • Click on Emergency Information Collection
  • After entering the contact information, click Submit/Confirm to save the information

Unless you check the appropriate boxes, the system will NOT send you a text message to your cell phone or call your home phone number. You must "opt in" for those features. If you elect to receive text messages, you may incur charges from your carrier for any messages sent to your number.

Please note: The University of Richmond does not warrant the successful delivery of each message to each individual recipient. The service depends on the individual e-mail systems, cellular, and mobile phone carriers to deliver SMS & e-mail messages to each recipient.
